3rd ACNFP_PGT Subcommittee Meeting

The 3rd meeting of the ACNFP_PGT Subcommittee will be held as a virtual meeting at 10.00am on Tuesday the 11th of October 2022 via Microsoft Teams.

Executive Summary

• Minutes from the ACNFP-PGT1 and ACNFP-PGT2 meetings were reviewed. Members input on the level of details required to ensure both transparency and clarity. The minutes will be updated accordingly and recirculated with members for agreement. 

• A workshop was held to further explore the factors that may be of concern, identified from case studies on Precision Bred Organisms (PBOs) in previous discussions. The Subcommittee identified when these factors of concern translated into potential risks. 

• A workshop was held to have an initial discussion on approaches to the scientific assessment of PBOs. Using case studies and previously identified expected risks from PBOs, Members identified the strengths and weaknesses of each approach to ensuring proportionate assessment and management of the expected risks of PBOs.  

• A workshop was held to develop criteria for the tier assignment of PBOs in a two-tier approach to the regulation of PBOs. Using case studies and previously identified expected risks from PBOs, Members explored the characteristics that could inform criteria.  

• The outcomes of the Subcommittee’s workshop discussions will be summarised and reviewed by ACNFP and its wider expertise for endorsement.
