The 151st meeting of the ACNFP will be held online at 09.30am on Wednesday 2nd February 2022 via Microsoft Teams, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Executive Summary
- An application was reviewed for ‘Barley Rice Protein’ as received under the Novel Foods Authorisation Process, which comprises of a mixture of protein from barley and rice to be utilised within a wide range of food groups. This was the third time the Committee discussed this application. To enable a risk assessment, it was advised that further identified information on the specification continue to be requested from the applicant to assure safety.
- The Committee reviewed for the first time an application on Synthetic Cannabidiol that is intended to be used as an ingredient in the manufacture of food supplements. The Committee advised further information should be sought on ADME, toxicology and the production process to inform a risk assessment.
- Another application (from the same applicant as the previous CBD item) for a CBD isolate from hemp, was reviewed by the Committee for the first time. The intended use as an ingredient is in the manufacture of food supplements. Similarly, the Committee advised further information on identity and composition, production process, ADME, toxicology, proposed uses and allergenicity of the novel ingredient to enable a risk assessment.
