The 147th meeting of the ACNFP was held online at 10.30am on Wednesday 21st April via Microsoft Teams, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Executive Summary

  • The Committee reviewed a Mung Bean Protein application received under the novel foods authorisation processes and were asked whether there were safety concerns with the proposed use of this novel food in the UK.

  • In January 2021, the Committee reviewed an application under the novel food authorisation process for a Cannabidiol (CBD) product. The Committee reviewed the draft feedback to the applicant, which is the first to be reviewed, to ensure that this accurately summarised the identified data gaps and the unaddressed concerns with regard to providing safety assurance.
  • The Committee issues a report, annually, outlining the work it has carried out in the preceding year. A draft of the 2020 report was reviewed by the Committee. The draft report was agreed subject to minor amendments.
  • The FSA had received a bespoke request for an amendment to an existing GM authorisation on the basis of a new technical development. The committee were asked to consider how this request should be approached in terms of advising on the science. This depended on the detail of the technical evidence and this will be reviewed at a future meeting.
