- Fermotein RP1215 – The Committee reviewed this novel food application for Rhizomucor pusillus biomass, for the fourth and final time. The CAD was agreed, subject to amendments and review by Chair’s action.
- EFSA 2024 guidance – The Committee reviewed the updated EFSA novel food guidance 2024 to inform whether it should be used to support GB novel food assessment. Some areas had been improved technically. However, it was agreed to continue to use the 2016 guidance as there were some points of difference that had emerged in some areas, but that the decision should remain under review and a more detailed review on some selected sections is needed.
- Draft precision fermentation advisory document – the Committee reviewed the draft of this FSA owned supplementary guidance for novel foods produced through precision and biomass fermentation. The Committee provided feedback, and this input will be incorporated into the document, which will proceed to publication.
- Draft Committee Advice Document (CAD) template for precision fermented novel foods – the Committee provided feedback on the draft CAD template and agreed that the template was suitable for use with future applications, subject to edits.
- Three GM items were reviewed as reserved business: genetically modified Maize Bt11 × MIR162 × MZIR098 × DP4114 × NK603 (RP2288), genetically modified Soybean MON94313 (RP2261) and genetically modified Soybean COR23134 (RP2310). The assessments were finalised following a detailed review by the PGT-Subcommittee. All three CADs were agreed by the Committee with minor edits, and the outputs will now proceed to publication.
- Cell-cultivated chicken biomass RP2218– The Committee reviewed this CCP application for the first time, an ingredient intended to be added to a range of foods. Information gaps to meet the requirements of the novel foods technical guidance were identified in identity, production process, composition, stability, proposed uses, specifications, ADME, toxicology, nutritional information and allergenicity. The Secretariat was advised to seek further information from the applicant. The CAD will be updated when a response is received and reviewed at the next available meeting.
- Cell-cultivated duck RP2241– The Committee reviewed this CCP application for the first time, an ingredient intended to be added to a range of foods.
