- Cannabidiol (CBD) isolate (RP343, RP345 and RP346)- The final CADs for these 3 novel food applications were reviewed. Members identified areas for the Secretariat to amend. These will proceed on to the publication process.
- Esterified Propoxylated Glycerol (EPG) RP1363 – Following the first review in September 2024, the Committee requested further information from the applicant. The applicant’s response was considered by the Members and indicated that additional information was needed on identity, specification, proposed use and toxicology. This will be sought from the applicant.
- Bambara groundnut RP 2272 (Traditional Food) – The Committee reviewed this traditional food notification to provide advice to inform risk management decisions by FSA/FSS to ministers. The applicant sought two forms of use: dried whole seeds and a flour. Following the review, queries were raised in various sections of the application where the data was not satisfactory. A summary of the outcome of the discussion will be prepared for a public consultation and shared with risk managers to inform their decision on whether to raise reasoned safety objections.
- Solid lipid curcumin particle (SLCL) RP1776 – The Committee reviewed this application for the first time. It is intended to be used as an ingredient in food supplements. Following the review, the Committee advised further information was required on identity, production process, ADME and toxicology to reach a conclusion on safety. The Secretariat was advised to seek further information from the applicant.
- Annual report – Due to time constraints, this item was not discussed in detail. It was agreed that the draft report was of good quality and member’s input was sought by correspondence for final clearance by Chair’s action.
- Allergenicity workshop - The Committee was updated on the outcome of the allergenicity workshop held in February 2024. The Members explored how the output from the workshop and the insights it provides can support ongoing novel food assessments especially in supporting applicants tailor their data to support review of allergenicity. Suggestions were made and these will be explored further with the Committee at a later date.
