Executive Summary

  • Mung Bean Protein RP32 – The Committee reviewed a response from the applicant relating to the potential for allergenicity. It was agreed that determining the risk of this novel food to those with allergy to peanuts and other legumes was not possible based on current evidence gaps. The CAD will be updated in light of the discussions to be cleared by Chair’s action.
  • Allulose RP1130 – The Committee reviewed this novel food for the first time. The discussion identified various areas that required further information to complete the assessment.  The Secretariat was advised to seek further information from the applicant and consult internal expertise to support the review of genotoxicity and impact on potential for acrylamide contamination.
  • Cell Cultivated Products - The Committee reviewed the refined scope as focused on Cell Cultivated Products, and the terms of reference for the subgroup. An open session of the ACNFP will be held in February on this topic to support the beginning of the ACNFP-CCP subgroup’s work for a 2-year duration.
  • Cannabidiol (CBD) RP354 - The Committee reviewed this novel food for isolated cannabidiol for the first time. The discussion identified various areas that required further information to complete the assessment.  The Secretariat was advised to seek further information from the applicant and update the CAD to be cleared by Chair’s action.
  • Cannabidiol (CBD) RP521 (Reserved) – The Committee reviewed this novel food for 98% pure CBD. Members requested clarification on the methodologies used in the compositional analysis as well the potential for consumers exceeding 10mg/day consumption. The Secretariat was advised to seek further information from the applicant and update the CAD to be cleared by Chair’s action.
