160th ACNFP Meeting

Executive Summary

• An assessment for isomalto-oligosaccharides for use as a food supplement was considered. Further information that had been requested in the previous meeting was reviewed with the Committee asking the Secretariat to seek more information on the proposed uses. The members also reviewed the first draft of the Committee advice document for this novel food where they proposed suggested amendments.
• Pasteurised Akkermansia Muciniphila, a returning application of a novel food derived from pasteurised cells of the bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila that had a preliminary assessment at the last meeting was reviewed for the second time. Further information was identified as being needed on various sections of the application. The Secretariat to seek further information from the applicant.
• The Committee also reviewed Genetically Modified Cotton GHB811 for food and feed. Some discrepancy was noted on the data provided with the Secretariat asked to seek clarification from the applicant. They were also invited to comment on Committee advice document on this novel food that had been reviewed and agreed by the ACNFP-PGT Subcommittee. Some minor amendments were suggested with the Secretariat to amend for agreement by Chair’s action.
• A precision breeding workshop was held where ACNFP was updated on the work of the Subcommittee on the data requirements for the two potential approaches to Tier 1 and Tier 2 assessments. The Secretariat was requested to summarise the conclusions on the data requirements to reflect the opinions of the Committee for the two approaches to Tier 1 and data requirements for Tier 2, for further review by the PGT subcommittee in the first instance.
